UNDERSTAND YOUR ACCIDENT BLACK BOX AND ACCIDENT DATA RECOVERY
EDR DATA PROVIDES A QUICK AND ACCURATE SNAPSHOT OF YOUR ACCIDENT
The data collected from your vehicle’s black box provides valuable information in regard to case evaluation and claims investigation.
We are able to retrieve information such as:
- How fast the vehicle was traveling in the seconds leading to impact.
- If the driver was actively accelerating into a collision or reducing throttle.
- How hard the driver braked, if at all in reaction to the events around them.
- If the driver made any avoidance attempt to steer left or right before impact.
- Were seat belts in use at the time of accident.
- Severity of impact (delta-v).
- If the vehicle was moving or stopped before impact.
- The order of impacts, who hit who first.
- If the EDR data matches the statements of those involved.
Which Commercial Vehicles contain EDR data?
These engines can be found in trucks produced by various manufacturers including Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Sterling, Volvo, Western Star, and more. We are also able to obtain useful accident related data from the various Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS) found on Commercial Vehicles including Bendix and Meritor WABCO systems. The Engine Control Module (ECM) found on most Commercial Vehicles can report vehicle speed, accelerator/throttle usage, engine RPM, brake application, clutch status, cruise control operation, electronic log books, and more.
Unlike Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicle imaging can be difficult to complete correctly and the electronic data can be easily spoiled. Data for commercial vehicles is stored in the engine ECM(s) and related systems and each manufacturer has their own way to store and recover accident related data. It takes time and effort to stay up on the latest software and techniques used for each of these engines, so it is important to make sure the company imaging your truck is up to date on the latest methods.
For each commercial download, our technicians and engineers will work as a team to ensure all available data is retrieved and no data is lost.
